My Chicken and Salad

I love chicken and I like to cook chicken in my InstaPot. It is a great cooking device. The chicken always turns our moist and falls off the bone.

I put my chicken in the pot, add balsamic vinegar, Italian dressing, seasoning, Italian seasoning, and then bake it in the pot for 1 hour. If it is frozen I cook it for 1 1/2 hours. The picture above has my chicken, Italian dressing, and ranch dressing with Frank's hot sauce. I like hot sauce with my chicken.

If you are trying a low-carb diet, this is a great recipe. There are no measurements in my chicken recipe. I add the ingredients intuitively.

"Tropical Paradise in a Pan"

>>>See all my recipes here!<<<

Hot Pineapple Casserole Recipe

A classic comfort food, hot pineapple casserole is a delightful blend of sweet and savory flavors. This dish typically features a creamy mixture of pineapple chunks, tangy cheese, and a hint of sweetness, all baked to perfection.

Key ingredients usually include:

  • Pineapple: The star of the show, providing a tropical sweetness.
  • Cheese: Often cheddar, for its sharp flavor, but other cheeses can be used.
  • Sweetness: Sugar or brown sugar is commonly added to balance the tartness of the pineapple.
  • Thickening agent: Flour or cornstarch helps to create a creamy texture.

The casserole is typically baked until bubbly and golden brown, creating a mouthwatering aroma that fills the kitchen. It's often served as a side dish, but can also be enjoyed as a dessert, depending on the sweetness level.

Quote For The Day:

"The raw fruits of the earth were made for human sustenance. Even the white tails of rabbits, according to some theologians, have a purpose, namely to make it easier for sportsmen to shoot them. There are, it is true, some inconveniences: lions and tigers are too fierce, the summer is too hot, and the winter too cold. But these things only began after Adam ate the apple; I before that, all animals were vegetarians, and the season was always spring. If only Adam had been content with peaches and nectarines, grapes and pears and pineapples, these blessings would still be ours." - Bertrand Russell

Photo Credit: Funny Fishing Memes Family -Facebook

It is Wednesday and it has been a busy week for me. I found this funny food meme of a pie with a pie crust that had been made to look like an octopus. I don't know why this pie was made but it was obviously made by someone or for someone who likes octopuses. I had to look up the plural of octopus.

This meme is funny and the double entendre triggers the laugh. What answer do you think this meme tries to get out of you? If I was making this pie crust I would use blueberries for the eyes. Blackberries would work too but blueberries would look more realistic. It looks like this might be a blueberry pie. What are your thoughts?

A Few Questions For You:

  • Have you tried pineapple casserole before?
  • Have you made pineapple casserole in the past?

Pineapple casserole is a quintessential American dish, its origins deeply intertwined with the history of canned food and the casserole craze of the mid-20th century.

  • Sweet and Savory Fusion: Pineapple, with its natural sweetness, proved to be a popular ingredient in casseroles. Its combination with savory elements like cheese and crackers created a unique flavor profile that resonated with many.

More Information For You:

Unfortunately, there isn't a well-documented origin story for pizza casserole. However, by looking at the history of its two key components, we can make some educated guesses about its rise to popularity.

Casseroles:

  • Baked dishes combining various ingredients have existed for centuries. The word "casserole" itself likely emerged in the 17th century, referencing the deep, round baking dish used for these meals.
  • Casseroles gained immense popularity in the mid-20th century, particularly in the US. Their convenience perfectly suited the needs of busy families.
  • The rise of convenience foods like canned vegetables and prepared sauces further fueled the casserole craze.

Pizza:

  • Pizza's history stretches back to antiquity, with flatbreads topped with various ingredients found in different cultures around the world.
  • Modern pizza, as we know it with tomato sauce and cheese, emerged in Naples, Italy, some time between the 16th and 18th centuries.
  • Pizza's popularity soared in the 20th century, particularly after World War II, when Allied troops stationed in Italy brought back a taste for the dish.

The Marriage of Pizza and Casserole:

  • It's likely that pizza casserole emerged sometime in the mid-20th century, capitalizing on the popularity of both dishes.
  • Home cooks, looking for creative ways to use leftover ingredients or recreate pizza flavors in a more convenient form, might have started combining elements of both.
  • The beauty of pizza casserole lies in its versatility. It allows for customization with various types of pasta, sauces, cheeses, and toppings, making it a perfect dish for using up leftovers or catering to different preferences.

Clues to its Origin:

While there's no single inventor or specific date for pizza casserole's creation, here are some clues:

  • The rise of convenience foods in the mid-20th century aligns with the popularity of casseroles.
  • The post-war era saw a surge in Italian immigration to the US, potentially influencing the creation of new Italian-American dishes like pizza casserole.

Overall, pizza casserole is a testament to the enduring appeal of pizza and the convenience factor that casseroles offered in the mid-20th century. It's a delicious example of culinary creativity and continues to be a popular comfort food option today.

Cheesy Hamburger Potato Casserole Recipe

Quote For The Day:

"I basically have the diet of a 19th-century Irish navy, apart from the liter of stout a day. It's meat and potatoes and bread and cheese: those are my four food groups." - Daniel Radcliffe

Food For Thought:

Donut & Ice Cream Sandwich

Today was a good day for receiving free food. An acquaintance of mine owns a local donut shop. He shared a free donut with me and some friends. They were leftover donuts and were going to throw them out. I have always assumed a donut shop would have throwouts but I didn't expect them to be so good. I told him if he was going to throw them out to throw them my way.

I added an ice cream sandwich with the donut. It was a major sweet day for me. It seems I have been at the right place and at the right time this week for sweet treats. It is not a bad place to be. We only have so many trips around the sun. I figure we might as well enjoy them while we have them.

Are you looking to start a business? Donuts are among the most popular baked goods in America. It is a great business to start. You might be thinking there are so many donut shops. The amount of donut shops in America is proof that it can be a successful idea. Over 10 billion donuts are munched down by Americans each year.

How To Start A Donut Shop:

  1. Write a business plan.
  2. Research other donut businesses.
  3. Total the cost of opening your business.
  4. Get your equipment together.
  5. Put together a menu for customers.
  6. Purchase advertising for your new business.
  7. Hire qualified employees to help you.
  8. Do a Grand Opening.

Casseroles or the "Hot Dish" recipe started showing up in America during the 1930s. The base for most casseroles are condensed cream of chicken or cream of mushroom soup. The Campbell's Soup Company is largely responsible for this popularity. They began promotion of their soup in recipes during the 1930s as well. In the 1950s, American housewives began using leftover potatoes to top their casseroles with. Learn more interesting facts about the "Hot Dish" or casseroles by visiting FOOD & WINE.

My Thoughts On Cheesy Hamburger Potato Casserole:

Most guys are running to the dinner table when you mention meat and potatoes, and especially when there is a dish that is topped with cheese. This Cheesy Hamburger Potato Casserol offers the best of a hamburger and potato meal. I think the cream of chicken adds a great taste to this casserole but if you feel like experimenting with cream of mushroom, you may like that taste better.

This recipe has a good amount of salt and pepper in it, but in my opinion it is the pepper that really enhances the flavor. I like to put a lot of salt, pepper, and sugar in my recipes. Flavor is the goal for me. To complete this meal you can serve a crisp salad. What are your thoughts?

Cheesy Hamburger Potato Casserole Recipe - (Casseroles)

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound hamburger
  • 5 medium potatoes (peeled and sliced)
  • 1 medium onion (chopped)
  • 1 can cream of chicken soup
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 cups Cheddar cheese (grated)

Instructions:

Lightly brown the hamburger and onion in a frying pan. Salt and pepper the hamburger and onion. When browned, add the cream of chicken soup, and parika. Pare and slice the potatoes. Put a layer in bottom of buttered casserole. Cover with a layer of meat and cheese then another layer of potatoes. Pour enough milk over all until it shows around edges. Top the casserole with the remaining cheese. Bake in a moderate oven, 325-350 degrees until potatoes are done.
