Jalapeno Cornbread Recipe - Below

How would you like to have a jalapeno recipe for every day of the year? Here's a great cookbook you might find interesting.

Jalapeno cornbread is a delicious and versatile dish perfect for any occasion. It is made with cornmeal, flour, eggs, milk, and butter and is typically baked in a cast-iron skillet. The addition of jalapenos gives the cornbread a spicy kick, and it is often served with chili, soup, or stew.

Jalapeno cornbread is a great way to add some heat to your meal, and it is also a great way to use up leftover jalapenos. If you are looking for a new and exciting way to enjoy cornbread, you should try making jalapeno cornbread.

Here are some tips for making jalapeno cornbread:

  • Use fresh jalapenos for the best flavor.
  • You can adjust the amount of jalapenos you use to your liking.
  • You can also add other ingredients to your cornbread, such as cheese, bacon, or corn.
  • Serve your cornbread with butter, honey, or your favorite dipping sauce.

I hope you enjoy this delicious recipe! Continue reading.

Food For Thought:

Did you see it? When I first saw this food meme, I had to study for a moment and then I saw it. If I were shopping for bread and came across this package I would have to take a picture of it too. I imagine the worker at the bread factory was a new employee. Mistakes happen.

Fun Facts About Wonder Bread

  • A Balloon-Inspired Name: The name "Wonder Bread" was inspired by the sight of hundreds of hot air balloons at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 1921.
  • Sliced Bread Pioneer: Wonder Bread was one of the first companies to sell sliced bread nationwide in the 1930s, revolutionizing the way Americans ate bread.
  • Iconic Packaging: The distinctive loaf shape and the bright, colorful packaging of Wonder Bread have made it a recognizable brand for generations.
  • A Long History: Created in 1921, Wonder Bread has been a staple in American kitchens for over a century.
  • More Than Just Bread: Beyond the classic white bread, Wonder Bread has expanded its product line to include various grain options and other bread varieties.
  • A Floating Brand: In celebration of its 80th anniversary, Wonder Bread launched its own hot air balloon, continuing the brand's connection to its iconic name.

A Few Questions For You:

Recipe and Process

  • How did you find the balance of heat and sweetness in the jalapeno cornbread? Would you adjust the amount of jalapenos next time?
  • Did you notice a difference in texture when using a cast-iron skillet compared to a regular baking pan?
  • Did you find the cornbread to be moist enough? Would you add more milk or butter next time?

Flavor and Experience

  • What did you serve your jalapeno cornbread with? What was the best pairing in your opinion?
  • How would you describe the overall flavor profile of the cornbread? Did the jalapeno heat complement the sweetness of the cornmeal?
  • Would you consider adding any other ingredients to the cornbread, such as cheese or bacon?

Tips and Tricks

  • Did you have any issues with the cornbread sticking to the pan? Do you have any tips for preventing this?
  • Do you have any suggestions for making the cornbread ahead of time? How did it reheat?
  • What would you recommend to someone who doesn't like spicy food but wants to try jalapeno cornbread?

A Brief History of Cornbread

Cornbread is a staple in American cuisine, but its roots run deep into the history of the Americas.

  • Native American Origins: Corn, or maize, was domesticated in Mesoamerica thousands of years ago. Native Americans developed various ways to prepare corn, including grinding it into a meal and forming it into bread. These early versions of cornbread were simple, consisting primarily of cornmeal, water, and salt.
  • Colonial Adaptation: When European settlers arrived in North America, they adopted corn as a staple crop. Cornbread became a common food in the Southern colonies, particularly due to the challenges of growing wheat in the hot, humid climate.
  • African Influence: The culinary traditions of enslaved Africans also contributed to the evolution of cornbread. Dishes like hushpuppies and cornbread dressing reflect these influences.
  • Regional Variations: Over time, cornbread developed regional variations. Southern cornbread is often sweet and moist, while cornbread from other parts of the country may be drier and more savory.

Today, cornbread remains a beloved comfort food enjoyed by people across the United States. Its history is a testament to the diverse culinary traditions that have shaped American cuisine.

My Thoughts On Cornbread:

My earliest memory of cornbread is how my grandmother liked to make and eat leftover cornbread. She would bake cornbread in a skillet and sometimes there would be uneaten cornbread the next day. When she went for a snack she would cut the leftover cornbread and crumble it into a glass. She would fill the glass with milk to cover the cornbread and then eat it with a spoon like cereal.

The first time I saw her do that I was a little confused. I wondered how it could taste good. She invited me to try it. After trying crumbled leftover cornbread in a glass with milk, I was sold. Since that time I have developed a lactose issue but I still eat leftover cornbread the way my grandmother taught me, except I use almond milk now.

Easy Old-Time Flapjacks Recipe

Easy Old-Time Flapjacks Recipe - (Breads, Rolls)

Ingredients:

1 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon shortening
1/2 cup milk or water
Lard or shortening for frying

Directions:

Combine all the ingredients into a large mixing bowl and mix well. Pour the dough on a well-floured surface. Roll or pat into 3/8 to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut the dough into irregular-shaped squares, 2-3 inches long, and make slits in the middle of the squares. Heat some lard in the frying pan to fry your flapjacks. Fry 2 or 3 flapjacks at a time. Cook the flapjacks for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Place the flapjacks on a paper towel briefly to drain.

Thoughts On Easy Old-Time Flapjacks Recipe:

Serve your flapjacks with butter, syrup, jelly, or honey. This was an old-time, or "pioneer" recipe. Flapjacks were usually made when there was little food in the home. The slits in the flapjacks help them to fry evenly. When I was a child I always enjoyed breakfast time with my mother when she made flapjacks. She never called them flapjacks. They were always called pancakes and most of the time they came from a box mix. This recipe is very authentic and what "old-timers" would mix as a recipe. My favorite topping was syrup.

My second daughter was dating a nice young man in the past and we decided to eat at Denny's Restaurant with my daughter and her boyfriend. We ordered "pancakes" to eat on that occasion. I watched my daughter's boyfriend prepare his food before eating. He took his spoon and began to cut a hole in the middle of the pancakes. I asked him what he was doing. He said, "Just watch." After he cut the hole in the middle of the pancakes he filled the hole with syrup until it ran over top and onto the plate. He said he was making a crater for the syrup like you do when for mashed potatoes and gravy. It's like a gravy crater in mashed potatoes but it's a syrup crater. It made sense to me and I have been doing that since.

More Information On Flapjacks:

In the United Kingdom flapjacks are different from pancakes. Flapjacks in the UK are cooked differently too. When did the slit in flapjacks become incorporated into the cooking process? Do you want to learn how to make "British" flapjacks? You can learn more about the history of pancakes and flapjacks by visiting the Allrecipes website.

Some Questions For You:

Have you tried this old-time recipe? What is your favorite topping to put on flapjacks or pancakes? Have you tried peanut butter on your flapjacks? It is a favorite topping that my daughters use. Did you see my last recipe? It is called Needle In A Haystack No-Bake Cookies Recipe and it's a great no-bake cookie recipe to make.

My Thoughts For Today:

LAUGHER IS THE BEST MEDICINE on Facebook

My grandfather is famous in our family for making banana bread. He likes to let his bananas turn black so his bananas are sweet for his bread. If you visit his house and open his refrigerator freezer, you will likely find frozen black bananas. He is 94 years old and still loves making banana bread. I've heard my grandfather remark on other people's banana bread and insist that his bread is better and sweeter. My grandfather is a funny person. I would like to get my grandfather's recipe for banana bread and share it with you. I will see what I can do.

Thoughts On Zucchini Bread:

When I was a kid I was used to having lots of banana bread and one day I had zucchini bread offered to me. It looked so much like banana bread I was immediately interested how it tasted. The similarity between the two breads is difficult to ignore. Banana bread it slightly sweeter to me and it has a banana flavor. I love sweet breads so I naturally liked zucchini bread also. I like to put a little butter on the sweet breads that are fresh from the oven so the butter melts into the bread. My grandmother taught to me sprinkle a little salt on top of the melted butter. That is a nostalgic food memory for me.

My Thoughts For Today:

Meme by Animal Feed on Facebook

I enjoy funny food memes I find across the Internet. I came across this meme and thought to share some thoughts on it. Life has a way of putting us through trials and tribulations. As we go through these trials we build up protective layers to guard us from potential threats that may come our way. It's good to learn from our experiences that make us better. Naturaly we want to prevent ourselves from going through the same mistakes again and again. We have only so many trips around the sun and while writing this I am aware that statement may sound negative but in my opinion I think life should be lived for the best. I would like to encourage you to keep love at the center of your life.

If someone has hurt you and you think there is a potential for them to hurt you again, of course avoid it at all costs to protect yourself, but try to find it in your heart to keep love at the center and not hate. Do I sound a little preachy here? It is only my intentions to encourage you for the better. I hope you find this food meme a little funny and get a positive message from it. If you've read my post this far, thank you. I hope this zucchini bread recipe and blog post brightens your day.

White Chicken Chili Easy Recipe - (Main Dishes, Chicken)

Chili Seasonings: (Make this first and set aside.)

(You can use 1 packet of your favorite white chicken chili season if you do not have the ingredients to mix this recipe.)

1 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon mustard powder
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper

Ingredients: (Chili)

3 tablespoons butter
1 yellow onion (diced)
1 jalapeno pepper (large, seeded and diced)
1 teaspoon of minced garlic
3 tablespoons flour
6 cups of chicken broth
1/3 cup of half & half milk
2 regular cans of cannellini drained beans
1 teaspoon of your favorite hot sauce
1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce
2 small cans of green chilis, mild, and not drained
1 regular can of sweet corn whole kernel (use frozen if you like)
1 (8oz.) cream cheese, soft
1 1/2 pounds of boneless skinless chicken breast
Salt and pepper

Directions:

Make the chili seasoning and set it aside. Melt the butter, add in the onions and diced jalapenos. Cook for about 5 minutes, then add the garlic and cook for another 1 minute. Put in the flour and cook for 2 minutes while stirring well. Next, add the chicken broth and stir while pouring it in. Add in the half & half next the same way. Stir in the chili seasonings along with the Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, and green chilies. Next, let it boil for about 15 minutes without a lid and then reduce to a simmer.

Sprinkle salt and pepper on both sides of the chicken. Put the chicken and the corn in the pot and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes without the lid. Cook it slow so the chicken will be tender. Next, take the chicken out and shred it after it is cooked well then put it back into the pot. Turn the heat to low and add in the soft cream cheese. Keep stirring until the cheese is melted.

See my recipe videos!

You will love this recipe and if you have never tried White Chicken Chili I am sure you will be a fan of this dish. As I mentioned in my video, a friend of mine shared this recipe with me. I had never tried it before and was excited to cook it and share it with my family. I decided not to go with a White Chicken Chili season packet and mix up my own seasons. I was very glad I decided to do that. Cooking should be fun and challenging but also easy. I love to take my time when cooking and enjoy the process. I love to have cornbread with my chili and this recipe tastes especially good with warm cornbread.

Extra Information For You:

I am not quite sure where White Chicken Chili originated from but if you have some information on the subject I would love to hear from you. Southern Kitchen has a great article on the subject and you can give it a read. They share some history on chili in general. My best guess is that it is an American chili recipe that may have originated in the Midwest. I say that because I am from Missouri and want to claim that many great recipes came from my area. Can you blame me?

A Question Or Two For You:

Have you ever tried White Chicken Chili? If you haven't tried it, when did you first hear of this tasty recipe? Have you ever cooked White Chicken Chili? Needless to say, I am hopelessly addicted to this food and crave it often. I want to give a shout-out to my friend who shared this recipe with me.

Homemade sourdough Jalapeno Cheddar!

My oldest daughter is baking sourdough bread and she is getting good at it. She currently has her hands very busy with three little children and they are such a blessing. She is a stay-at-home mom and has decided to start selling her sourdough bread. She has a culture she keeps and uses it to make her bread. It is very interesting to see her creations and she uses us as tasters of her bread. That is just fine with me because it is very delicious. I am sure she will start selling her bread on Facebook for local marketing. I hope she does well. I will share the future progress of her bread-baking journey and some pictures too.

My Thoughts:

Wow! What a week for me. I have been pretty busy at my job. I know I mentioned that in my last post about my job but I am known to repeat myself a little. I had to work this Friday so I missed out on helping my daughter at the local farmer's market. I feel bad about that but she is very understanding. She is such a sweet girl.

I also wanted to share here about a former co-worker. He is a young man I had the pleasure of working with who has turned his hobby into a business. He has made soft plastic fishing lures for several years now and even made them when he was in public school. He would sell his fishing lures to his classmates and even his teachers. After he graduated he took a job where I work and for the past year has had his business on a part-time basis. He has set up a booth at the same farmer's market my daughter sells her baked goods.

He has done very on a part-time basis with his job and decided to leave where I work to pursue his business full-time. I tried talking him into staying where I work for another year or so and continuing to work his business part-time while setting up his website to sell lures on. I couldn't talk him into staying so he has left working full-time with me. I completely understand him doing that and he has support from his parents.

He is currently making the same amount of money from his business as he was making from working at the factory with me. I am proud of him and will blog more about his progress in his business as I hear about it from him. I know he will do very well in the sporting goods industry. He is very motivated and a hard worker. He has a very good character and morals. I don't see too many young men like him today.

I decided to share a picture of us both in this post. I hope you enjoy the picture. When he has his website up and his store completely going I will do a post on all those details. His business is Bubba Reds Bait Co. If you are on Facebook you can follow him on his Facebook business page called Bubba Reds Baid Co.

Now allow me to share my thoughts on cinnamon rolls. I absolutely love those cinnamon rolls. There is something about the cinnamon and sugar with the icing that my tastebuds love. I love cinnamon rolls fresh from the oven. My daughter has a cinnamon roll cookie she makes and sells at the farmer's market and they always sell fast. They are one of my favorite cookies she makes. When they are warm they take just like fresh cinnamon rolls. I love to have hot coffee with fresh cinnamon rolls.

More Thoughts On Cinnamon Rolls:

The history of the cinnamon roll or cinnamon bun is something that many will debate about. The Swedes claim that the cinnamon-baked delight originated there in the 1920s. You can read more interesting facts about cinnamon rolls at The Sussex Kitchen.

Quick Question:

Do you like chopped nuts on your cinnamon rolls? I love nuts but I do not really like them on my cinnamon rolls. I believe chopped nuts can give your baked cinnamon rolls an extra texture many enjoy. Another quick question, do you think that roasting nuts to put on cinnamon rolls would add something special to the taste? It is just an idea I have and I have not tried it but I do think it is worth a try. If I do try this I will share it here on my blog.
