A Few Questions For You:

  • Did you read my recipe from yesterday? It is called Karidopita Greek Spiced Walnut Cake Recipe and it's a great Greek cake recipe!
My Thoughts For Today: (secret bonus recipe)

Great copy recipe!

I don't know the exact recipe for Texas Roadhouse butter but this is a great copy. I love going to Texas Roadhouse for a steak and I always look forward to their hot rolls. The rolls come with honey butter. I usually tell the server to keep the rolls coming so I have to take my meal carry-out so I can enjoy the leftovers later. I like to get the 20-ounce bone-in ribeye steak with green beans. Next time I go to the Texas Roadhouse restaurant I will make a video for you.

Keep on cooking!

Carrot Cake Cookies Recipe - (Cookies)

Ingredients: (Cookie)

2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup sugar
1 cup butter or margarine
1 egg
1 cup carrots, cooked and mashed
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 cup chopped pecans

Directions: (Cookie)

Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, combine sugar, butter, egg, and carrots, mixing well. Stir the dry mixture into the sugar mixture. Add vanilla. Stir in nuts. Drop a well-rounded teaspoon about 2 inches apart on a lightly greased baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes or until no imprint remains when touched lightly with a fingertip. Let the cookies cool. You don't want to overbake this soft cookie.

Ingredients: (Frosting)

3 cups powdered sugar
Grated rind of 1 orange
3-4 tablespoons orange juice

Directions: (Frosting)

Combine all the icing ingredients and mix them well. Frost the cookies with icing, and sprinkle the chopped pecans on the icing.

Thoughts On Carrot Cake Cookies:

I really enjoy carrot cake but I also love cookies and this carrot cake cookie recipe is the best of both. This cookie reminds me of carrot cake and that is why I titled it Carrot Cake Cookies. Warm cookies right out of the oven are the best. When you make this recipe it is difficult to have them warm because of the icing that is supposed to go on the cookie after it is cooled. If you know your microwave well you can warm the cookies just enough not to melt the icing but also make the cookies warm. If you don't want to do that you can just enjoy the cookies at room temperature. They will be good no matter what.

More Information On Carrot Cake Cookies:

National Carrot Cake Day is February 3rd. You can learn more interesting facts about carrot cake by visiting DaysOfTheYear.com. Mark this date on your calendar.

According to Melissa K. Norris, the Carrot Cookie originated during World War II and is considered a vintage recipe. The carrot cookie revived the carrot cake popularity in America.

Some Questions For You:

Do you prefer a carrot cake or a carrot cookie? Have you baked either one of these tasty treats? Did you see my last recipe? If you missed it, it is called White Texas Sheet Cake Easy Recipe and it is a popular dessert in Texas.

My Thoughts For The Day:

A curious food gift.

I was given this little cast iron skillet as a gift. All I need is 8 ounces of softened cream cheese and it makes about 2 skillets. I love food gifts like this. It's a cooking project that can be enjoyed. The directions say to clean the skillet and oil it like any other skillet. I don't know what I could do with a little skillet. Do you have any ideas? I was thinking I could use it to cook a single egg.

What is the most interesting food gift you have received? I once received a beer bread kit in a beer bottle with the recipe printed on the back. All I needed to do was add 1 beer, mix, and bake in the oven.

Keep on cooking!

Thoughts On White Texas Sheet Cake:

I spent my pre-teen years living in Texas and sheet cake was a popular dessert. Every time it was made I was sure to get a piece to enjoy. It didn't matter to me if it was chocolate, white, or if it had some type of nuts on top. I have good memories of my mother and grandmother making sheet cakes. The Texas sheet cake has quite a history and a very interesting one. Keep reading to learn more.

My Thoughts For The Day:

Deer Summer Sausage

A great opportunity came my way when a friend of mine offered to share some deer summer sausage. I currently live in Southwest Missouri and we have plenty of deer here. Many people enjoy hunting for deer and eating venison in many different ways. This particular venison was made into summer sausage with peppercorn and mustard seed. My favorite deer summer sausage has cheese and jalapeno inside. Have you tried venison? What do you think of deer meat? If you have cooked venison please share your favorite way of cooking this lean meat.

*Follow me on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest so you never miss a recipe.

Fast Texas Pete Chicken Wings Easy Recipe - (Main Dishes, Chicken)

Ingredients:

1/2 cup margarine
1 cup Texas Pete sauce (you can use your favorite sauce but give this one a try)
2 Tablespoons brown sugar
2 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 24-count package chicken wings
Oil for deep frying

Directions:

Melt margarine in a small saucepan. Stir in Texas Pete sauce, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce. Deep-fry chicken wings in hot oil in deep-fryer until wings float to the top and are golden brown. Place the wings in a casserole dish. Add sauce. Cover the casserole dish. Shake until chicken wings are covered with sauce.

Yield: 8 servings

My Thoughts On Super Fast Chicken Wings:

I must say that Texas Pete Hot Sauce is one of my favorite hot sauces I have tried. I have only recently tried Texas Pete and I am a huge fan, to say the least. It has moved to my top three all-time favorites. Tabasco has always been my number one. My wife brought home Texas Pete Hot Sauce and after trying it, I decided to move it to the top of the list. I just love the burn Tabasco gives on my tongue but Texas Pete has a more vinegar taste to it. I think that is why I love it. A little less burn and a lot more vinegar.

This recipe post is supposed to be about chicken wings but what makes this recipe so special is the flavor Texas Pete provides. As mentioned in the recipe, you can use your favorite hot sauce but I beg you to give this recipe a try.

Some Extra Information You Might Enjoy:

Did you know there is a National Chicken Wing Day? Well, there is, and according to National Day Archives, it is on July 29th. I know that is some time away but I thought you would like that fact if you did not know it. You can visit them in the post link here in this post to find out how many chicken wings the average American eats a year, or how many chicken wings Americans eat on just Super Bowl Sunday. You might find it interesting the amount times that many chicken wings will circle a major geographical attraction in the good ole USA.

A Few Questions For You:

Can you guess how many calories a single chicken wing, without sauce, has? How many chicken wings would you think most Americans eat in one sitting? Did you know there was a world record for the most wings eaten in a single sitting in 2015? It will blow your mind how many chicken wings this record was set in just under thirty minutes. Be sure to visit the National Day Archives link in the previous paragraph to find out all this incredible information.

Did you see my last recipe? If you missed it, I would like to share it here. It is called White Chicken Chili Easy Recipe. (Theres a video attached to that post.) My last recipe fits just perfectly with this recipe post simply because it is chicken. I hope you enjoy it.

Here's My Personal Thoughts For The Day:

Do you enjoy funny food memes? Since I blog about food and recipes I enjoy food memes I may find on the Interweb. I came across a good one while scrolling through my Facebook feed. One of my friends shared. Raven Hawk on Facebook shared a meme that I can totally relate to from time past. Check it out below!

Funny Food Meme!

When I was a kid I had one of those windup jack-in-the-box toys that played music when I cranked it. It would always give me a jump when the lid would pop open. When I got older and opened my first can of biquits I had a similar experience. I'm not a big sissy man now and I actually enjoy the pop the can will make while pulling the paper. You might admit that pop of the can is surprising even if it doesn't scare you.

I hope you enjoyed this Fast Texas Pete Chicken Wings Easy Recipe and blog post. Please leave your thoughts below I would love to hear from you.

Texas Hash Easy Recipe

*Follow me on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest so you never miss a recipe.

Texas Hash Easy Recipe - (Main Dishes, Beef)

Ingredients:

1 pound hamburger
1 large green pepper (chopped)
1 can diced tomatoes (14.5 ounces)
1/2 cup uncooked rice
1-2 tablespoons chili powder
3 large onions (diced)
2 teaspoons salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper

Directions:

Heat oven to 350 degrees. In a large skillet, stir ground beef until it is light brown. Then drain off the fat. Add the onions, and green peppers, cook, and stir until the onions are tender. Stir in the tomatoes, rice, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Heat thoroughly, and pour into an ungreased 2-quart casserole dish. Cover & bake for 1 to 1 1/2 hours.

My Thoughts On Texas Hash:

When I was a child I lived in East Texas. Longview, Texas to be exact. I lived there for about seven years. I loved it there but I am originally from Missouri. I picked up a little accent while living in East Texas, which was very noticeable when I moved back to Missouri. It is amazing how a person can adapt to a certain geographical area and pick up an accent. One thing that also was picked up was my love for Texan food. I love Texas Hash! If you have never tried this recipe I would encourage you to give it a whirl! There's some Texas talk for you!

Extra Information For You:

Texas Hash is really a Tex-Mex casserole but I logged it under Beef Dishes in this blog because of the love for beef in Texas and originality. This recipe is something that the whole family will love. The recipe originated in 1971 by the one and only Betty Crocker. I'm just kidding! She didn't invent it. She just published it then to share her version with the world. Betty Crocker isn't even a real person. She is a brand. Texas Hash is originally thought to come from the Great Depression era when families needed to conserve food and make ingredients stretch just to survive. You can learn more about its origin by visiting Apron Advisor.

A Question Or Two For Ya:

Do you remember the first time you tried Texas Hash? If you don't remember the first time then maybe you remember the last time. Did you cook it or did someone else? If you make this recipe would you mind sharing your experience with me here? Great! I knew you would. Also, did you see my last recipe? If you missed it, it is called Choco-Holic Ho Ho Cake. Check it out and tell me what you think of it too.

Personal Thoughts For Today: (Wood Pellet Stove Installation Pictures)

It has been a busy week for me as usual and I have been working on my wood pellet stove, as you may know from reading my previous posts. I got the area wall cleaned up and ready to get this thing installed. The nights here have been colder and I appreciate the warmth of wood heat. I am really looking forward to it being warmer and cheaper to heat my home.

Where the propane wall heater hung.

I need to paint over the spots on the wall where the propane heater used to hang. I got the holes filled and then I moved on to the next step in the process. I had to find the flue exhaust pipe hole and drilled in the area where I thought it was until finally I found it. I began by cutting the hole all the way open until it was completely revealed. I think I removed so many bird nests from the flue I filled up a small trash can.

I put putty in the hanging holes. Next, I need to paint.

You can see in the picture above where I placed putty in the wall holes where the propane wall heater used to hang. You can also see the propane line coming in through the floor. I have a cut-off valve on there and was advised to cap it off with a flair cap to be safe. I didn't have to put it under the floor. I decided to keep it there if I wanted to use it in the future for a propane heater. I still have a central air system that has a propane furnace in it but the more options available for heat is the best in my opinion.

6-inch flue hole I gloriously cut out.

How do you like the tiny drill holes above my flue exhaust hole? I tapped on the sheetrock that covers my flue and listened. I thought I found the hole but as you can tell, I had it wrong. I think it is funny. Well, that is just some more holes I will have to putty over and paint. I plan to run a 3-inch exhaust pipe up through the flue to use for the wood pellet stove instead of using the original flue itself. My home is an old home and I am sure the flue was built to resist heat but by using the exhaust pipe I am being safe.

Stove pipe for the flue I bought at Lowe's.

This weekend my daughter and I visited Lowe's and purchased three 60-inch stove exhaust pipes. I previously measured my flue that when down to the opening inside and it was about 12 feet. That gives me a little extra when I install the topper and cap on top of the house. I also purchased a 3-inch elbow to connect to the pipe on the inside of the flue. At the time of the purchase, these pipes were about $14 each. After-tax, my total was around $50 dollars. It is adding up for sure but it is an investment that will pay for itself in the long run.

Hole for cold air intake hose.

Since the wood pellet stove has to have cold air from the outside I figured out a great way to get it. I decided to drill a 2 1/4-inch hole in the floor behind where the stove will sit. I can run the intake hose under the house over to a vent on the side of the house. It really worked out perfectly because the vent is in the exact place I need it. I bought a 2 1/4-inch Craftsman drill bit because that is the size of the intake hose that came with my wood pellet stove. I also purchased this drill bit at Lowe's. It was the cheapest option for me and worked great.

I hope you enjoyed my post for today about Texas Hash Easy Recipe and my wood pellet stove installation journey. Please feel free to share this post with a friend and if you have any tips or feedback about this recipe or my wood pellet stove I sure would love to hear from you. I am learning how to install this stove so if you can, please help me out. Thanks so much for reading!

Texas Matador Casserole Easy Recipe - (Beef)

1 (10 oz.) pkg. dry egg noodles
2 lb. ground beef
3 tsp. salt
3 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. pepper
1 (16 oz.) can stewed tomatoes
2 (8 oz.) cans tomato sauce
2 cloves minced garlic (can substitute refrigerated jar garlic)

1 cup sour cream
6 to 8 green onions, chopped
1 cup. Cheddar cheese

Directions:

Add the noodles, sour cream, cream cheese, and green onions. Place in a large casserole dish and cover with grated cheese. Bake for 35 minutes at 350 degrees.

Serve with a green salad and French bread.
Serves 10 to 12 people.

My Thoughts:

I mentioned in my last post about my daughter losing her cell phone in the river and you might be happy to know that I bought her a new phone. I know kids these days spend too much time on their phones but my daughter is a great kid. She doesn't sneak out, do drugs, say bad words, smoke, or any other things that would be considered deviant behavior. Now, before you think I completely spoiled my daughter, I also want to add that I am having her pay for the phone herself.

She will more than likely pay for her phone by continuing to sell her baked goods at the Farmer's Market. Hopefully, I get to take her this week on Friday as long as I don't have to work. I usually have Fridays off if I work a 40-hour work week. The new phone I purchased for her is exactly like the old one she had but it is white. It is a used phone and my provider has let me finance it out over time. This works out for me and I am glad to do it. I purchased insurance on the phone should another incident like this happen again the phone will be replaced or fixed easily.

It has been hot here in Missouri and we have been in an excessive heat advisory. Where I work it is very hot and close to 100 degrees inside. Even with big fans blowing on us it still feels like a convection oven and sweating a lot is just a given. My home air conditioner went out and stopped cooling a couple days ago. The fan would still blow but it wouldn't cool. My step-father works for a heating and air company and has been in that business for many years. You might imagine who I called. It got up to almost 90 degrees in the house and we have lots of shade around my home. Two giant pin oak trees. One in the front of the house, and one in the back. The house is also surrounded by trees. It still got very hot in the house. That's how bad this heat advisory has been.

My stepfather did come while I was at work and fixed the unit. He said it was a blown capacitor. He said it is a common problem and they have to change those out like people change their underwear. He has a unique way of talking. He did say that to help prevent the capacitor from going out I could make sure the filter is changed regularly and keep the outdoor unit cleaned by spraying water from a hose into the unit cleaning out dirt and dust.

Since I worked on the second shift, he did all this while I was at work. When I got home the house was cool to normal. It was a very comfortable 72 degrees. Where do you keep your thermostat set?

Thoughts on Texas Matador Casserole

I'm not sure why this recipe is called Matador but I can tell you, if you don't already know, there is a Matador, Texas. Who knows, you might even be living in Matador, Texas while reading this. Matador is a small rural Texas town that is similar to the one I live in Missouri. They may have more horses than we do but I would guess we have as much cattle here in our area. You can learn more about Matador, Texas by reading this page.

Matador Casserole has egg noodles and beef and it is sure to fill you up. It is very creamy and has lots of cheese. I just love pasta and cheese.

Extra:

Do you know what the most famous food is that comes from Texas? If you guessed Texas Sheet Cake you are right. Texas sheet cake is super easy to make and I will probably share a great recipe here in the future. If you missed my last easy recipe on Chicken Kiev you can read about it here.

Quick Question:

Did you enjoy reading about Texas Matador Casserole? What about my situation with my daughter's cell phone? What is your favorite Texas recipe? I know I usually ask more than one question but I always have more than one to ask you. As always, if you have a recipe or a comment about this one, I would appreciate you for leaving a comment here. Thank you so much for reading and have a great day!
