Baked Macaroni and Cheese With Tomatoes Recipe

Quote For The Day:

"I can't stand people who do not take food seriously." - Oscar Wilde

Food For Thought:

Celebrity Cookware

How do you feel about celebrity cookware? Two main celebrities come to my mind when I think of celebrity cookware. The first celebrity is Pioneer Woman and the second is Paris Hilton. I know there are others, but these two celebrities stand out because I often go into the big-box store and see the cookware.

I have purchased Pioneer Woman cookware, cups, and glasses. I have yet to purchase Paris Hilton's products. My daughter likes the Heart Shaped Bundt Cake Pan. All her products are pink. I don't have a problem with pink but I like darker colors. Ok, I don't want pink but it would be nice if she had a guy color like camouflage. Her Bamboo Cutting Board is cool but instead of a heart cut in the corner, it would be nice to have a knife shape or a deer shape in it.

Many years ago I studied business people while going to college and Conrad Hilton was a subject. Conrad Hilton started Hilton Hotels. Paris Hilton is the great-granddaughter of Conrad. I remember Conrad was a young man on his journey to create his fortune. He stayed in a small hotel and was impressed with the service. It was then that he decided to enter the hotel business. The rest is history.

My daughter likes Paris Hilton and her cookware. If we purchase the cookware I will do a review for you on the products we purchase. I do know Paris has a microwave popcorn popper product I think would be very interesting to try. Currently, we have an old electric hot-air popper we have had for many years. It still works great. I do like popping popcorn on the stovetop. I use a pot with a lid and pour enough popcorn just to line the bottom of the pot and then I pour enough cooking oil to barely cover the popcorn. I put the lid on the pot and cook the popcorn until it is done popping. It turns out great every time.

Some Questions For You:

  • Do you like baked macaroni?
  • What recipe do you use when making baked macaroni?
  • If you have made baked macaroni, what method of cooking do you use to make yours special?
  • Did you see the recipe I posted yesterday? It is called Mocha Cheesecake Delight Recipe and it has coffee in it. If you are a coffee lover, you will enjoy the recipe.

Extra Information For You:

Baked macaroni is considered a side dish for holiday gatherings in America. It is said that Thomas Jefferson made baked macaroni popular during his presidency. A chef who worked for Thomas Jefferson made a "macaroni pie" and it was served to people who visited the White House. Visit The Science Survey to learn more about the history of baked macaroni.

Since that time there have been many variations of baked macaroni. Mary Gatti created a cookbook that has 185 baked macaroni recipes in it. You might find it interesting.

My Thoughts On Baked Macaroni:

Here in the Ozarks, we have a country theme park you might have heard of. In the theme park, they have several restaurants. One of my daughters worked in the theme park at one of the restaurants. They served baked macaroni which was so good. I always dipped a serving when I went to eat there. Unfortunately, the baked macaroni is a restaurant's secret recipe but while my daughter worked there she learned the recipe. Now she makes the baked macaroni for us when we have special family events. She doesn't share the recipe with us but she bakes a dish of it and we enjoy it.

This recipe is special because of a few things. First of all, you can use any macaroni doodles you like but I would suggest using Creamettes. Their macaroni noodles are a higher quality food product and you will enjoy the high-quality taste. Another thing that makes this recipe great is sauteeing the chopped onions well in butter. Sautee the onions until they are dark brown. This will give the baked macaroni a taste you won't forget. Finally, the sugar added makes the baked macaroni just sweet enough to enhance the flavor combination of onion, cheese, salt, and green peppers. The salt seals the deal because of the sweet and salty together.

It is a simple recipe but it is the little things in preparation that make the difference. When I cook, I cook for the flavor. If you skip my suggestions you will miss the flavor I am writing about here.

Baked Macaroni and Cheese With Tomatoes Recipe - (Casseroles)

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 box of Creamettes macaroni (8 ounces, cooked)
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 green pepper (chopped)
  • 1 can tomatoes (cut up)
  • 1 can tomato paste (6 ounces)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 3/4 pound sharp Cheddar cheese (shredded)

Instructions:

Sautee the chopped onions in the butter until they are dark brown, almost burned. Add the water, green pepper, tomatoes, tomato paste, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil. Add 1 tablespoon of sugar and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Pour it over the cooked macaroni, add the shredded cheese and mix. Pour into a greased casserole dish. Bake for 1 hour at 325 degrees. Stir it once during the baking process. Top with sliced cheese. Bake another 5 minutes or until the cheese melts.

Keep on cooking!
