Thoughts On Pineapple Cheesecake:

I love cheesecake! Pineapple cheesecake is really good! I have a great memory of living in Honolulu, Hawaii when I was a small child. My dad was in the Army and we were stationed there. There are plenty of pineapple fields there. I remember one day we were allowed to get pineapple from the pineapple field. We took it home and cut it up for eating. The freshest pineapple in the world comes straight from the fields.

My Thoughts For Today:

Ooey Gooey Butter Cake

A co-worker had a birthday and our nice manager decided to make a cake for her. My manager found Paula Deen's Ooey Gooey Butter Cake recipe and made it for the first time. She served it in the breakroom and not only did this cake look great, but it also tasted wonderful. I hadn't had gooey buttercake since I was a teenager. Gooey butter cake was always at our family reunions and I never failed to get a piece.

My manager said she was worried how the recipe would turn out but we reassured her it was perfect. This cake did have a side effect. After eating it and returning to work I felt like I needed a nap. The nap didn't happen. The birthday celebration for my co-worker did turn out nice.

Easy Old-Time Flapjacks Recipe - (Breads, Rolls)

Ingredients:

1 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon shortening
1/2 cup milk or water
Lard or shortening for frying

Directions:

Combine all the ingredients into a large mixing bowl and mix well. Pour the dough on a well-floured surface. Roll or pat into 3/8 to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut the dough into irregular-shaped squares, 2-3 inches long, and make slits in the middle of the squares. Heat some lard in the frying pan to fry your flapjacks. Fry 2 or 3 flapjacks at a time. Cook the flapjacks for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Place the flapjacks on a paper towel briefly to drain.

Thoughts On Easy Old-Time Flapjacks Recipe:

Serve your flapjacks with butter, syrup, jelly, or honey. This was an old-time, or "pioneer" recipe. Flapjacks were usually made when there was little food in the home. The slits in the flapjacks help them to fry evenly. When I was a child I always enjoyed breakfast time with my mother when she made flapjacks. She never called them flapjacks. They were always called pancakes and most of the time they came from a box mix. This recipe is very authentic and what "old-timers" would mix as a recipe. My favorite topping was syrup.

My second daughter was dating a nice young man in the past and we decided to eat at Denny's Restaurant with my daughter and her boyfriend. We ordered "pancakes" to eat on that occasion. I watched my daughter's boyfriend prepare his food before eating. He took his spoon and began to cut a hole in the middle of the pancakes. I asked him what he was doing. He said, "Just watch." After he cut the hole in the middle of the pancakes he filled the hole with syrup until it ran over top and onto the plate. He said he was making a crater for the syrup like you do when for mashed potatoes and gravy. It's like a gravy crater in mashed potatoes but it's a syrup crater. It made sense to me and I have been doing that since.

More Information On Flapjacks:

In the United Kingdom flapjacks are different from pancakes. Flapjacks in the UK are cooked differently too. When did the slit in flapjacks become incorporated into the cooking process? Do you want to learn how to make "British" flapjacks? You can learn more about the history of pancakes and flapjacks by visiting the Allrecipes website.

Some Questions For You:

Have you tried this old-time recipe? What is your favorite topping to put on flapjacks or pancakes? Have you tried peanut butter on your flapjacks? It is a favorite topping that my daughters use. Did you see my last recipe? It is called Needle In A Haystack No-Bake Cookies Recipe and it's a great no-bake cookie recipe to make.

My Thoughts For Today:

LAUGHER IS THE BEST MEDICINE on Facebook

My grandfather is famous in our family for making banana bread. He likes to let his bananas turn black so his bananas are sweet for his bread. If you visit his house and open his refrigerator freezer, you will likely find frozen black bananas. He is 94 years old and still loves making banana bread. I've heard my grandfather remark on other people's banana bread and insist that his bread is better and sweeter. My grandfather is a funny person. I would like to get my grandfather's recipe for banana bread and share it with you. I will see what I can do.
