I thought I had a lot of skillets in my house. I have three skillets of different sizes. I had to share this skillet collection because the entire rack is dedicated mostly to cast iron. How many skillets do you own?



Skillet Cleaning Tip: The Baking Soda and Vinegar Combo



Stuck-on food is no match for this simple yet effective method:



  1. Create a paste: Combine baking soda and a small amount of water to form a thick paste.
  2. Apply generously: Spread the paste evenly over the burnt or greasy areas of your skillet.
  3. Let it sit: Allow the paste to sit for at least 15 minutes, or longer for stubborn messes.
  4. Scrub it off: Use a sponge or scrub brush to gently scrub away the loosened food particles.
  5. Rinse and dry: Thoroughly rinse the skillet with warm water and dry it immediately to prevent water spots.



For extra stubborn messes, you can add a splash of white vinegar to the baking soda paste for added cleaning power.



Tip: To prevent future stubborn messes, soak your skillet in warm water but never overnight.



How To Season A Cast Iron Skillet



Materials Needed:

  • Cast iron skillet
  • Vegetable oil (flaxseed oil can also be used, but it tends to flake off over time)
  • Paper towels or lint-free cloth
  • Oven



Steps:



  1. Clean the Skillet: Wash the skillet with hot water and mild dish soap to remove any residue. Dry it thoroughly with a paper towel.

  5. Repeat: Repeat steps 2-4 at least two more times to build up a good layer of seasoning.

  • Use high-smoke-point oils like flaxseed oil, canola oil, or vegetable oil.
  • Don't use too much oil; a thin layer is sufficient.
  • Avoid washing the skillet with soap after seasoning. Just wipe it clean with a paper towel.
  • If the seasoning starts to flake off, you can repeat the seasoning process.

  • The seasoning process creates a non-stick surface on the skillet, making it easier to cook with.

Five generations apart.



My grandpa loves to make banana bread. I wanted to share a picture of him and one of my granddaughters. My grandfather is still alive and doing well. His memory is not as good as it used to be but he still drives at 94 years old.



He loves anything banana and he likes to save bananas until the skin is almost black to make his banana bread. He says that's the best way to make banana bread. He likes the bananas really sweet when it is baked into banana bread.
